Week of September 1, 2014

9/1/2014

I hope everyone has had a lovely three day weekend!  I went horseback riding on Saturday, worked at school on Sunday, and had a relaxing day at home on Monday.

Walk-a-thon
The PTA Walk-a-thon event is coming up this Friday.  I hope you will all participate by making pledges to our PTA.  This is the BEST fundraiser because ALL of your donations go directly to our own Fair Oaks Ranch PTA.  You are welcome to participate in the walk along with your student. Please see the flyer I sent home last week for more info.

Scholastic Books
Thank you all so much for your Scholastic Book orders.  The books are in the mail, and should arrive this week, or maybe next week.  Your students will have some great reading ahead of them, AND you have helped provide even more books for the classroom.

Homework Reminder
Homework logs and fluency passages for this week went home last Friday.  They are due this Friday.  Please be sure to SIGN the homework log and put student's name on it so that your student receives full credit.

Class Dojo
Almost every parent in class has now signed up for ClassDojo, which is great.  You will always be up to date on your student's classroom conduct, AND I can send individual and group messages about important upcoming events.  I hope you find it as useful as I do!

More Tech Coming Up!
Please stay tuned for even MORE TECH coming up.  We will begin using an app called FrontRow Math this week.  It allows students to practice in all of the math domains, both at school and at home, if you like.  Last year, my class really enjoyed it--they always asked if they could do FrontRow.
We will also be using a website and app called RazKids, which is a reading application.  We will use it in class, and you will have the opportunity to use it at home as well. More info to follow as we get ready to implement it in class.

Daily 5
This year I am implementing a classroom strategy called the Daily 5.
The Daily Five is a way of structuring the reading block so every student is independently engaged in meaningful literacy tasks.  When it is up and running smoothly, students will be engaged in the Daily Five, which are comprised of:

  • Read to Self
  • Work on Writing
  • Read to Someone
  • Listen to Reading
  • Word Work

More information will be coming along as we progress.

PTA Reflections
Information will be coming home Tuesday regarding the PTA Reflections program.  I encourage everyone to participate--it's easy and fun!
